About Ryan
Ryan is a devoted husband to his beautiful wife since 2011 and a present father to his two wonderful boys. Ryan’s struggles in life and marriage necessitated a focus on internal work; he sought out reliable resources on masculinity, met the people he truly needed, put in the effort, and achieved positive growth.
After two years of intense personal development, Ryan was called to coaching (specifically, coaching other men). The lack of discussion around masculine sexuality/sexual performance in most men’s literature caught his attention more than anything and Ryan loves to focus on these topics.
Professionally, Ryan is a U.S. Naval Academy graduate with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, a veteran Naval Flight Officer with combat experience as a Weapon Systems Officer in the F/A-18F Super Hornet, a former Senior Instructor of Mechanical Engineering at the U.S. Naval Academy (after earning his M.E. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Maryland, College Park), a 4th generation licensed Master Plumber & small business owner, a licensed Professional Engineer in Mechanical: Thermal & Fluid Systems, and a Master Certified Life Coach through the Certified Life Coach Institute (International Coaching Federation accredited).
Ryan also holds a Private Pilot License, he is a certified High Performance Driving Education (HPDE) instructor, and he is a first degree black belt (Cho Dan) in Tang Soo Do.
About the crest:
The crest displays symbols that represent grounded masculinity and are inspired by Ryan’s life experiences:
Let’s Be Men Again (in midnight blue) - a general mentality supporting a return to healthy masculinity. While no example is perfect, many masculine cultures of the past can serve as inspiration to us in modern times. After reading numerous books on masculinity, this phrase appeared to Ryan as a clear and succinct guiding principle for the modern man.
Midnight Blue(color of lettering) - the color of the black belt level in Tang Soo Do (Korean Martial Art made famous by Chuck Norris). Where black tends to symbolize death, midnight blue represents the different degrees of “black” belts and signifies that a practitioner is still learning at every level (taken from the International Tang Soo Do Federation Handbook). Ryan earned his first degree black belt in Tang Soo Do in March 2026.
Sequoia Tree (upper left) - this tree represents a connection to mother earth and strength through adversity. Sequoia trees are the largest/strongest in the world and natural forest fires create the appropriate soil environment for these trees to thrive. While living in California, Ryan was able to regularly hike through the Sequoia National Forest.
Uhm-Yang (upper right) - this symbol represents the dual nature of the Universe and the dual nature of every aspect of life (Korean version of Yin-Yang). The red section represents the active, i.e. Fire, Heaven, Father. The blue section represents the passive, i.e. Water, Earth, Mother (taken from the International Tang Soo Do Federation Handbook). As men, we are part of a greater whole but we must act in accordance with our manly nature for there to be balance. By filling his masculine role at home, Ryan has seen the balance in his marriage shift in profoundly positive ways.
Gears (lower left) - men are thinkers and creators. We are mechanics and engineers. We are problem solvers and inventors. Both literally and figuratively, gears represent many of our inherent capabilities. Ryan comes from a long line of plumbers, became a plumber himself, and also established himself as an engineer.
Knight’s Helmet (lower right) - knighthood involved an initiation process; a clear way to train boys and develop them into men. Other martial cultures from the past could fit in this space just as easily; Medieval knighthood is simply one example of masculine training involving ethics and values. This German Sallet helmet represents part of Ryan’s family tree from Europe.
Crossed Swords (bottom) - these traditional U.S. Naval Officer swords represent Ryan’s previous service in the Navy as a Naval Academy graduate and Weapon Systems Officer in the F/A-18F Super Hornet. Ryan has combat experience as part of Operation Enduring Freedom.
